Letters, diaries, business and legal papers of the descendants of Joseph (1701-1761) and Elizabeth Dudley Richards (1724-1805) of Dedham, Mass., and Isaac (1722-1794) and Elizabeth Weld Child of Brookline, Mass. Papers include letters of Peter Johonnot (1783-1809), the loyalist, deeds for Boston and Roxbury land, diaries of Elizabeth Richards Child (1781-1878) for 1794-1878, Richards Child (1783-1840) for 1819-1840, and Dudley Richards Child (b. 1867) for 1884-1923. There are also letters and deeds relating to the Mayo, Scarborough, and Cotton families, a copy of a 1628-1682 diary of John Hull (1624-1683) and an 1855 diary of Edmund Freeman kept during military service in Texas.

John Hull (1624-1683) was a colonial merchant, public servant, mintmaster, and silversmith. He came to America from England as a child, established himself in Boston, and became a wealthy and influential leader in the Massachusetts colony.
